“LES MISERABLES” CHAPTERS 14 AND 15

The Wedding and The Truth at Last

While Marius was almost dying, Cosette had taken care of him. When he got better he kept
asking who had saved him. Then, he asks his grandfather for the second time to get married
with Cosette, who agreed with. Jean Valjean approved it as well. When they were together,
they kissed.
The wedding was arranged to February, and Jean Valjean prepared everything. But, not
everything was solved. Marius wanted to find Thénardier and know who had saved him.
The wedding occurred nicely, except for the fact Valjean acted suspiciously and left early.
He was troubled by the fact he was no longer the most important man in Cossetes’s life.
The next day, Jean told Marius his story, and this decision made Valjean get away from his
daughter. Cosette, however, still missed her father, who had been visiting her less and less.
Days later, Thenardiér accidentally revealed the truth to Marius, who rushed with Cosette to
Valjean’s house, thanking him for being the great man he was. Unfortunately, Valjean was ill,
and, in a melancholic moment, Cosette and Marius saw the man’s life end peacefully.
