Equações do Segundo Grau
b=0:
4x² – 100 = 0
4x² = 100
x² = 100/4
x² = 25
x = √25
x = ± 5
S={+5,-5}
c=0:
x² + 2x = 0
x.(x + 2) = 0
x’ = 0
x” + 2 = 0
x” = -2
S={-2,0}
Second-degree equations
What are them? Second-degree equations are very important for mathematics. Every equation with an unknown value for x that can be written in the form of ax ^ 2 + bx + c, where a, b and c are real numbers and a ≠ 0, is called second-degree equation. They can be divided into two types: complete or incomplete. When all digits are different from 0, they are complete equations. When b=0 or c=0, it is called incomplete.
How to solve it: To solve a complete second-degree equation, we use the Bhaskara formula, which is:
Here is an example:
3x2-15x + 12 = 0, being a = 3; b = – 15 e c = 12
However, as seen earlier, if within equation b or c they are equal to 0 (an incomplete equation), it is not possible to use the Bhaskara formula. Then we solve the following way:
Examples of incomplete equations:
b=0:
4x² – 100 = 0
x² = 100/4
x² = 25
x = √25
x = ± 5
S={+5,-5}
—————————-
c=0:
x² + 2x = 0
x.(x + 2) = 0
x’ = 0
x” + 2 = 0
x” = -2
S={-2,0}
