projeta no chão.

Thales Theorem

What is it? The Thales Theorem was developed by the mathematician Thales of Miletus, who demonstrated the existence of a proportionality in the line segments formed by parallel lines cut by transversal lines. Is a theorem of geometry that states that, in a plane, the intersection of parallel lines by transversal lines form proportional segments.

Who was Thales and how did he get known in mathematics? Tales of Miletus was a mathematical philosopher, born in the city of Miletus around 585 BC, became famous in the mathematical world for being able to measure the height of a pyramid. He started from the idea that there is a ratio between the height of the object and the length of the shadow that that object casts on the floor. He used only one staff and the shadow measurements of the pyramid and staff at the same time.

Tales imagined the triangles VHB and ABC, which are similar, since they have two respectively congruent angles, as Tales knew that the sides of these triangles were proportional, he was able to determine the height VH of the pyramid through the ratio VH is to AB, just as HB is to BC.
