Chapter 5

Jean Valjean takes Cosette out of the Thenardiers’ house and takes her to sleep in the small room in which she was staying in the poor part of the city of Paris. There he taught her reading and writing lessons. But even though he was in hiding after two days after giving money to a suspicious beggar, Javert found him again. On the same night he and cosette left town, but they came to a dead end, however, he and cosette managed to escape by climbing the wall and descending a tree.

Chapter 6

After the Battle of Waterloo, a man stole jewelry from the dead. He saves a soldier he himself tried to steal. Pontmercy’s wife dies, and he leaves the house so that Marius can have a good life with his grandfather. Marius grows up and discovers the truth about his father and Thenardier. Marius returns to Paris, and his grandfather throws him out of the house. He starts to live in a building and works in a bookstore, he has no girlfriend, he just works. Marius begins to notice Jean Valjean and Cosette on their walks, he watches them for a year and six months, and notices the beauty of Cosette. Marius and Cosette exchange glances for the first time, the other day he sits on a bench far from where he saw them for two weeks. Cosette starts to look discreetly at Marius, and Marius does the same. Jean Valjean notices and makes regular visits to the gardens. Marius finds a scarf he thinks is Cosette’s but is Jean Valjean’s, he finds out where they live and then Jean Valjean stops going to the garden, Marius finds out that Jean Valjean and Cosette move to another place.

Chapter 7

Marius was walking alone in the street when two women appeared, one of them dropped an envelope with some letters, when Marius went to give them back they were gone, he takes the letters home, reads them and goes to bed. The next morning an old man appears. At his door and hands him a letter with the same handwriting as the other letters, Marius realizes that the letters are from his neighbor, the Jondrettes, he talks to Éponine who says he writes books and writes a sentence for Marius, then in a coverse Marius discovers that Éponine is in love with him. Marius sees through a hole in the wall that mr. Jondrette sets a trap for Mr.Leblanc, Marius tells Javert everything and then, seeing a conversation between Mr.Leblanc and Mr.Jondrette he discovers that Jondrette is actually Thenardier, the man who saved his father’s life and who he swore to protect, Thenardier says Leblanc is the reason for his misfortunes for taking Cosette from them, the two fight and Thenardier imprisons Leblanc for 200,000 francs, then Marius throws the paper Éponine had written for him and tricks Thenardier, Javert arrives and Leblanc runs out the window.
