Les Misérables chapters 1-2

This man is Jean Valjean, he was recently released from 19 years of prison by stealing a bread and multiple tries of
escaping. And this city, is where everything started.
After arriving at the village of Montfermeil, he starts to chase for a room and some food, as he had a yellow passport, no one accepted him. After he gave up, he laid in a bench in front of a church and a woman come to talk to him about somewhere he could stay. So he is accepted in a bishop’s house, but as soon he realized the candlesticks and cutlery were made of silver, he decided to steal them in the middle of the night. He gets the silver objects and jump the wall, but policemen got him and brought him back to the bishop’s house to give the things back. But the bishop lies to the policemen and saved him from prision as an agreement that from this point of his life, he would be an honest man. But when he goes to other city he steals money from a kid without realizing what was he doing, and tries to look for the boy to give him back, but with no success, for the first time in 19 years, he cried.
Now we met Fantine, a poor woman who was abandoned by a young man who had made her pregnant. Fantine was a pretty blond woman with blue eyes, she lived with her little daughter Cosette, until she met Mrs. Thénardier. She lies about her story, and convinces the madame to carry her daughter until she has enough money to raise her well, Mr. Thénardier charged 7 francs per month, with 6 months in advance and 15 francs for extras. But a month later, the family got short of money, so they took the clothes of Cosette and sold them. They dressed her up in rags and gave her very little food, in a bowl of wood under the table, where she ate with the dog and the cat, treating her as a slave all the time. Fantine rented a small room and started to work in a factory, she only dreamed about her future plans with her daughter. But then, at the factory, they discovered her secret, an unmarried woman with a child, and she got fired, so she got her little money from sewing shirts. By not having fire in the winter, she developed a dry cough. The Thénardiers charged more money from her, 50 francs, she didn’t had that money, so she sold her hair and her teeth to pay them to raise her daughter. She earned less and less money from sewing and the Thénardiers demanded more and more money, she didn’t have anything more to sell, she had to sell herself, she became a prostitute.
