Leis Ponderais

A+B → C+D

Weight Laws

The weight laws stand out because they study the relationship between the masses of the components and a chemical reaction, represented by the following generic equation:
A + B → C + D

The Weight Laws are divided into two: Law of conservation of mass (Lavoisier’s Law) and Law of Multiple Proportions (Proust’s Law).

Lavoisier’s Law – the mass of the product is the same mass as the reagent.
(Law of conservation of mass) (Works only in closed systems).
In his first experiments, Lavoisier noticed that some of the reactions take place with an increase in mass, while others with a decrease in it. These problems were solved when the experiments started to be done in closed systems, which made it possible to measure with greater precision the mass of reagents and reaction products. After carrying out several experiments in closed systems, Lavoisier realized that the reactants during the reaction, and the products after the reaction had the same mass.
Ex: 100,5g (metallic mercury) + 8,0g (oxygen) → 108,5g (mercury oxide II)

Proust’s Law – A first order reaction has its proportional proportions equal to all others. (Law of Multiple Proportions).
When carrying out experiments related to pure substances, Proust found out that regardless of the method, the production process or the production, the proportion of the chemical elements in the composition of the substances were always the same, as well as the proportion established between the masses of the reagents and the product reaction participants.
