Assim, temos:

1 mol de oxigênio (MAo = 16 u) tem massa igual a 16 g (Mo= 16g/mol);

1 mol de cálcio (MAca = 40 u) tem massa iguala 40 g (Mca = 40g/mol);

n= m/M

Em que:

n= número de mols

m= massa em gramas

M= massa molar da substância

Avogadro Constant

Scientists and mathematicians define constants as the general quantities considered in nature or in time, which can be dimensional or non-dimensional. Among the several existing in the study of Chemistry, we will highlight one in particular: the Avogadro constant.

Avogadro’s constant represents the number of atoms that together attend to generate in grams a value numerically equal to the unit of atomic mass.

The estimate of this value was provided, at the beginning of the 20th century, by the professor of physicochemistry at the University of Paris, Jean Baptiste Perrin, as a number between 6.5. 10 ^ 23 and 7.2. 10 ^ 23.

With the improvement of experiments and calculation methods, the following value was reached: 6.02214179. 10 ^ 23.

 Therefore, there are:

6.02. 10 ^ 23 C atoms in 12g of C (MAc = 12u)

6.02. 10 ^ 23 O atoms in 16 g of O (MAo = 16u)

6.02. 10 ^ 23 Na atoms in 23 g of Na (MA-Na = 23u)

Mol

According to the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC), mol is the amount of matter contained in atoms, molecules and ions. The mole is equivalent to the amount of 6.02. 10 ^ 23.

Molar mass

The molar mass of a chemical element or substance is the mass, in grams, contained in 1 mol of elementary entities, that is, the mass in 6.02. 10 ^ 23 entities, given in g / mol. Represented by the symbol M, it is numerically equal to atomic mass (MA) or molecular mass (MM).

Thus, we have:

1 mol of oxygen (MAo = 16 u) has a mass equal to 16 g (Mo = 16 g / mol);

1 mol of calcium (MAca = 40 u) has a mass equal to 40 g (Mca = 40g / mol);

1 mole of water (MAh20 = 18 u) has a mass equal to 18 g (Mh20 = 18 g / mol).

You can calculate the number of moles present in a sample using an expression in which the mass and amount of matter are proportional quantities:

n = m / M

On what:

n = number of moles

m = mass in grams

M = molar mass of the substance
